Millville, Delaware - City Information

The delightful little town of Millville, located in Sussex county was founded in 1906, with it's families consisting of ship captain's, watermen, millers and farmers. Though tiny, Millville offers an immense quantity of historical beauty, a tranquil and serene ambiance and a location hard to match, as it is cozy neighbors with Ocean View, Bethany Beach, Lewes and Rehoboth.

The main road that travels through this charming town was first created in the 1920's with all of it's side roads consisting of dirt until the 1940's. This being the case, the main transportation during this period of time were horses and ponies. Millville's first firehouse was built in the late 1930's with their first fire truck arriving in 1936. Like many of it's neighboring cities, Millville's settlers livelihood came from farming soy, vegetables, strawberries, and finally in 1923, the poultry business with Ocean View launching the first Broiler Industry. Other provisions came from cutting timber, saw mills, and fishing, as once the land was cleared, the local waterways offered an abundance of fresh fish, crab, clams and oysters.

When driving through Millville, even though close to the water, the fetching atmosphere is not only romantic, but creates a mood of being out in the country or perhaps a Victorian town with all it's quaint boutiques, old homes and alluring eateries.
